Yearn for some holiday decorations for your boat? But don’t have room for for much? Here are some ideas for DIY decorations that are compact, affordable and eco-friendly. And most of all? Festive!
Summary
DIY holiday decor is the best way to bring a little bit of home to your boat. Cruiser Amy Alton has several suggestions that are ecologically friendly, easy, and inexpensive to bring a celebratory spirit to your cruising boat. They’re great to do alone, with kids, or with other cruisers in the anchorage.
Start with fairy lights. Solar-powered lights can light up your interior or be strung from the mast.
Fabric and ribbons can add a pop of color. Use them to decorate your table, make bows, or wrap gifts.
Tiny plants, garlands, or trees can add a bit of greenery. They can be given away or mulched after the holidays. Depending on where you’re cruising, you may be able to find something festive at a nearby grocery store.
You can also make a variety of ornaments with natural ingredients. These include decor made with salt dough, cinnamon sticks, or origami paper. Pomanders can add a bit of scent, but will require extra help to last in the tropics.
