also when labeling the top of cans with indelible marker
put the date bought
and sometime where from (ie Costco Richmond)
so one “can” knowingly open the oldest can/jar first
(ever try reading manufacture date codes and ciphers?)
Sometimes I put the purchase price just for giggles at a later date.
I once bought a 1/2 kilo bag of saffron from a Persian roadside vendor (you supply the bag too (as unobtainable as soap and toilet paper)) For a couple of bucks and was told later by locals “i paid too much but the quality was excellent” . I would have purchased more but it had to fit in my one piece of luggage/pack.
