We’ve had questions from a couple of other Gemini owners asking for more info on our cockpit table after having seen pictures of it in various posts on other topics. The photos below are for them, but may give some ideas to other small catamaran owners too!
And yes, in the photos below, the cockpit is pretty dirty. We’re in the boat yard right now and have been doing some projects out there so it hasn’t made sense to get it super clean lately. Don’t worry — it’ll be all cleaned up before we go in the water!
How the table looks when up. I think it was either a totally homemade table, or a wooden tray that was customized.
There is a piece on the underside of the table that fits into the slot by the traveler.
The leg is attached by a simple hinge.
And it fits down into the groove around the cockpit floor.
For storage, the leg folds flat against the back of the table top and there’s a notch in the piece that goes in the traveler for it to rest in.
The table is 18-1/2″ by 30″ and we’ve found it to be a generally good size for the two of us for drinks or dinner, up to six people for drinks and snacks or as a serving area if we have more guests. Even though it’s a catamaran, having a lip on the table is nice for keeping things from being knocked off.
If you want to buy a tray and then modify it, these large trays seem to be sold as “Ottoman trays” as they can be set on a large Ottoman to make it into a coffee table. A couple places call them “butler trays.” It could be wider than the 18-1/2 that ours is and the length could be somewhat shorter than the 30″ we have.

That’s pretty neat! We have a teak folding TV tray we bought @ a yard sale for $3 that neatly stows away.

That was a steal!

Nifty idea. 🙂

Why, yes I do! Ally Cat could use this for sure. Great idea…thanks for the share!

How’s the stability with the single folding leg? I have my table top completed but was considering two legs to increase stability.
Carolyn Shearlock says
It’s not bad, since the whole other end is supported. But if you kick it, yes, it will collapse.

I love this idea. My 32’ C&C needs one of these.

Thanks for sharing. We have a 12 meter Catalac and there is no groove at the floor on our boat but I really like the idea of using the groove where the traveler is. With a little modification that might just work for us.👍

I’m sure you can figure something out!
