Hi Carolyn,
We are coming from Australia and would like to live aboard in Florida. Love the live-aboard life. We are Australian / Canadian retirees. Where to start?
Will not be sailing there. We did the other way around. Looking into having our 1986 Beneteau 50′ freighted to Palm Beach. Waiting for estimate of costs to come in.
Our marina here in Townsville is great. I am sure that Florida must have the same. We own our slip, live near CBD, amenities are perfect, people are lovely. But our family will now all be living in Vermont and NY, so we want to go back.
Feeling overwhelmed.

You do it! There are tons of great marinas in South Florida, and I’d also like to suggest the Boot Key Harbor in Marathon in the Florida Keys — a great liveaboard community and where I’m based.
You’ll have to check the requirements for both having your boat in the US (not sure where it’s registered — Australia?) and the length of stay restrictions for both of you as foreign citizens.
One note on shipping your boat: be sure to remove all the food on the boat before shipping.
Look forward to seeing you here! I think you’ll love South Florida and the opportunity to take some trips to the Bahamas.
