Cruising Stories celebrate the real life of cruising — the ups and the downs that come with this way of life. This week, I’m celebrating the Giffords’ appearance on the Today show, telling others of the joys of cruising as a family. It was a great show — see the clip below.
If you’re considering cruising, Behan and her husband, Jamie, offer coaching at extremely reasonable prices — check out their program here. They’ll help you figure out how to make it happen, how to prepare (without going broke), find a boat, and learn more of what it’s really like.
Follow Sailing Totem’s blog and Facebook. And Behan’s book Voyaging with Kids has become a classic for families considering life afloat.

What an amazing story. So happy for you that you were able to take that leap of letting go. I’m at a later stage in my life, 57, but I’m looking at doing this in 2 years. I’ve got the right partner in life for it and we bought s boat 2 years ago with the plans of doing this ourselves. Just waiting n practicing while our niece gets thru high school. Then fingers crossed we too shall be brave and sail away on our 36 ft Hunter.

We went to see the Gifford’s presentation of stories TOTEM at their homeport Seattle Yacht Club. Very refreshing. It’s good to know that we can make it out there and the scary places are not that in fact. They are taking off again and we hope to meet up with them one day!!
